Reading programs
The Library offers reading programs throughout the year to encourage readers—and future readers—to enjoy books and literature in a variety of forms and genres. Our programs are available on Beanstack, an online platform that makes it easy to sign up for reading challenges and track your reading.
Programs by age
Early childhood
- Growing Readers Together: 1000 Books Before Kindergarten: Foster early literacy skills and a lifelong love of reading by reading books aloud with your child. This program is open to all children who are yet to enter kindergarten.
Teens
- 100 Books Before Graduation: Teens in grades 6 through 12 are encouraged to read year-round and log their reading in Beanstack. This ongoing program can be completed at any time during middle school or high school.
All ages
- Summer Reading: Our annual Summer Reading program provides reading goals and incentives to help motivate youth and teens to read over the summer. Adults can participate, too! Program goals and rewards are tailored to a participant’s age range.
- Westmont Reads: Each winter, we invite everyone in Westmont to take part in our community reading challenge. Participants complete activities, like reading a story set in winter or reading a book by a new author, to fill reading bingo cards.
Beanstack
Beanstack is a platform for logging your reading and participating in reading challenges. You can use the Library’s Beanstack site from your computer or install the Beanstack Tracker app on your Android or iOS device.
All you need to sign up for Beanstack is an email address. Once you’ve created a Beanstack account, you can use it to participate in multiple reading challenges over time—and families can create multiple reader profiles under a single account.
