Youth Services Librarian

Starting pay from $25.03/hour, DOQ.  Includes a generous paid time-off package, health insurance, and IMRF pension plan.

37.5 hours/week

 

The Westmont Public library is seeking a creative, innovative, and friendly team member to join our Youth Services department on a full-time basis. Qualified applicants will be passionate about providing service to youth of all ages, proficient in using and demonstrating a variety of technologies, avid readers of youth literature, and enjoy serving a diverse public.  

Primary duties include working at the Youth Services desk to answer questions, providing readers’ advisory for youth and teens in-person and through book reviews and lists, developing print and AV collections, planning and implementing programs for elementary school-aged children and families, and developing outreach opportunities with local partners.

The successful candidate must also demonstrate initiative, be organized and efficient, and be a team player. An MLS from an ALA accredited library school and at least one year of work experience in a public service environment are required. The schedule for this full-time position includes day, night, and weekend hours. This position has a generous paid time-off package that includes holiday, sick, vacation, and personal time, as well as health insurance, and participation in the IMRF pension plan.

Youth Services Assistant Librarian

Starting pay is $19.26/hour and includes a generous paid time off package

19.5 hours/week

 

The Westmont Public library is seeking a creative and service-oriented individual to join our team as a Youth Services Assistant Librarian. Primary duties include presenting lively and engaging STEAM and literature-based programs for elementary school-aged children and families, and working at the Youth Services desk to answer reference questions and provide readers’ advisory for youth and teens.

Applicants should be 

  • passionate about providing service to youth of all ages, and their caregivers
  • adept at using and demonstrating a variety of technologies
  • avid readers of youth literature
  • positive in their approach 
  • eager to learn

Qualified applicants should have an LTA or Bachelor’s degree and some knowledge of youth literature and programming for children. At least one year of experience in a public service environment and previous experience working with youth is preferred. The schedule for this part-time position includes day, night, and weekend hours. This position has a generous paid time-off package that includes holiday, sick, vacation and personal days.
