Aster was born to be a shape shifter, but he wants to be a witch.  He knows he can do it and do it well, but his family does not approve of him going against tradition.  Boys do not become witches!  Will Aster turn away from his dreams?  If he follows his dreams, will the bad spirits corrupt him as they did his great uncle? Aster finds help in a friend he also should not have made.  Should he trust her?  The author did a beautiful job capturing the love this family shares even if they don’t always agree.

The illustrations have a charming simplicity that makes it easy to follow the action.  The diversity represents our modern families well with just a touch of magic added in.  If you like the story, please continue to follow Aster’s adventures in the next two books of The Witch Boy trilogy.
