Ava is having a hard time controlling her temper at school, and her friends don’t seem to want to be her friends anymore. After another bad day, Ava’s mother decides to transfer Ava and her brother to a boarding school in Venice, Italy; the same one that she attended as a child. Ava craves a fresh start, but as she listens to the Head of School on the first day, he says Zeus is real and so are all the mythological monsters.  In fact, this is a school for the descendants of mythological monsters! Ava has a lot of questions: What kind of monster is she? What are her powers? Can she make friends? Is this school teaching the truth?

This is the first book in the series, “The Myth of Monsters.” If you are a fan of Greek mythology, then this is a fun way to reimagine a world in which all of the characters in the myths are real, though the stories about them may be inaccurate. Friendship, bullying and complicated family histories all come into play. This title was selected as a 2026 Rebecca Caudill nominee.
