In this first book in a series, good friends Bear and Moose are two lovable dogs who look nothing like their names. Moose has one eye, and Bear has three legs. The friends live in the animal shelter and wait patiently for someone to accept their differences and take them to a loving home. Fortunately, Cathy comes along, and she has always wanted two dogs! While Bear and Moose adjust to their new life, they  find Tiger. Tiger also looks nothing like his name. He is a scared, lonely cat who is all alone in the world. Along with Cathy, the dogs welcome their new friend Tiger and help him to feel comfortable in their caring home.

The story includes gentle humor along with the sweet themes of home and acceptance. The soft, colorful illustrations show emotions and action and match the tone of the book. Each page has 4 – 6 short sentences with a mix of mostly familiar words along with some new, rich vocabulary. It is appropriate as a read aloud or as an independent read for a child who is almost ready for chapter books. Any child with a soft spot for rescue animals will enjoy this charming book, and additional books in the series.
