How to search for digital content

Using the Online Catalog

Starting at our website, westmontlibrary.org:

  1. From any page on our website, find the search bar, located in the upper right corner of the page on your desktop or at the top of the page on mobile. By default, the search bar says “Search the catalog.”
  2. Click or tap the down arrow on the right side of the search bar to expand your search options.
  3. Choose “Digital Materials.”
  4. Type what you’re looking for in the box and click or tap the magnifying glass to search.

Starting at the catalog, wms.swanlibraries.net:

  1. Click or tap on the dropdown that says “in Library Catalog” located between “Keyword” and “Search.”
  2. Choose “in Online Collection” Note: This search automatically includes ebooks, digital audiobooks, streaming movies and music, and digital magazines and comics from Hoopla, Overdrive, and Kanopy. Content from databases like Consumer Reports is not included.
  3. Type what you’re looking for in the search box and click or tap the search button.

Refining Your Search

Once you’ve done your search, you may find you have a bunch of results you don’t want. You can weed them out by using filters. This tutorial explains how to filter your search by platform, format, language, and other options.

Using the SWAN Libraries App

  1. Open the SWAN Libraries App on your mobile device. Don’t have the app? It’s available for Android devices from the Play Store and iPads or iPhones from the App Store.
  2. Tap “Search for ebooks & e-audiobooks.”
  3. Find the box labeled “Type in a keyword or title” at the top of the screen.
  4. Type what you’re looking for in the box and tap the magnifying glass to search.

You can limit your search by format, as well:

  1. Tap “Format: Any Format” at the bottom of your screen.
  2. Tap “Any Format” in the second box from the top and choose from the available formats. Note: You can only select one format at a time, for example, ebooks or movies.
  3. Tap “Apply Filters” to search again with your chosen options.
