Grimpy, a dumbo octopus, guides us through the depths of the ocean to meet several varieties of cephalopods.  Cephalopods include Octopuses (or octopodes as some prefer), squids, cuttlefish and nautiluses.  We learn different characteristics and skills of each unique species.  Did you know that octopuses have 9 brains and blue blood?  Cool facts abound!

The graphic novel format makes this nonfiction title very approachable and fun for younger ages!  The cartoon illustrations are both informative and humorous.  Kids can easily follow even more complex concepts such as “chromatophores”, which are cells that help some octopuses change colors to match their environment.  In the end, Grimpy realizes that he can’t do everything the other cephalopods can do, but he is remarkable in his own right.  The photo of Grimpy at the end of the book is also super adorable!

We love helping people find books, movies, and more.
