Mama Pigeon has just baked her famous jam tarts, adding her own special top-secret ingredient. Before her son and his fellow detectives can enjoy them, the tarts are stolen right out of Pigeon Private Detective headquarters. The thief left a mess, providing several clues for fur-ensics to examine. The rush is on to solve the case before the tarts are eaten – or turn stale. The trio of detectives follow the basics of crime solving, interviewing suspects and examining evidence. In the meantime, we catch glimpses of the thief trying to determine Mama Pigeon’s secret ingredient. Once the culprit is discovered, the PPD and Mama Pigeon offer a chance for the thief to make amends.
This humorous mystery is just right for children making the transition from early readers to chapter books. The hybrid graphic novel/chapter book format includes plenty of puns, with colorful illustrations on every page. A careful examination of the pictures may lead to clues for the reader who wants to solve the mystery on their own.
