The Lumbering Giants of Windy Pines cover

11-year old Jerry and her mother have moved around a lot in the year since her father died. When Mama says they will be staying for good at the Slumbering Giants Motel, Jerry is skeptical. But motels have easy access for Jerry’s wheelchair, and she is used to spending time alone. In fact, she prefers the company of her imaginary dragon, Paul, to the kids who bullied her at the last school she attended. Plus, there is a girl named Chapel at the motel who doesn’t seem to judge her – and she just might turn into a real friend if Jerry can let down her guard.

Mama seems to be working a lot of strange hours for a maid, and despite telling Jerry not to go in the woods, she is coming home with red mud on her shoes and torn clothing. Add to that the strange messages coming through the radio at night, and locals disappearing in the woods, and Jerry knows something unusual is going on. When Mama doesn’t come home one morning, Jerry sets off to find her. What she discovers in the woods is a little scary, a little exciting, and an adventure that proves she is more than capable of being a hero.

Debut author Mo Netz creates a slightly scary, otherworldly adventure tale that highlights self-reliance and the bonds we make with family and friends.
