The Riverdale Ripper tears through town, but the mystery of this brutal killer’s identity does not last long. In this horror twist of the classic Archie comics, Jughead is hungry like the wolf and discovers he descends from a long line of werewolves out for blood. Luckily for the citizens of Riverdale, Barbara is there to stop him. Descended from a line of werewolf hunters tasked with killing Jughead’s ancestors, Barbara trains Archie to be a bad to the bone werewolf killer. But is Archie ready for what he must do to someone he thought was his best friend?

Frank Teri and Michael Walsh weave a grisly tale perfect for the Halloween season (or any season if you enjoy Horror year round like this librarian), but Walsh’s pencils and the coloring team steal the show. Joined by Vampironica, Afterlife with Archie, and the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina comics, the Archie horror line has made a splash in the comics world. Sabrina, for example, is returning to television with her own show on Netflix albeit with a darker, scarier twist than its previous shows and comics. While Jughead: The Hunger is predictable and a little hoaky at times, it’s all to be expected.  What should truly be celebrated here are the blood soaked, gore spattered pages of what have always been slice of apple pie; Americana comic books about teenagers and their problems. Archie and the Riverdale gang have burst onto the horror scene and it’s something that the horror comics world never knew it needed.
