BROWSE (Title, Author, Subject) SEARCHING
Searching by:
![]() |
![]() |
These indexes are best used when you know the first word of a title or the last name of an author.
![]() |
The “Subject Headings” index is based on the Library of Congress Subject Headings. If you are looking for Mexican cookbooks, the proper subject heading is “cookery Mexican”. If you are not able to find materials using subject headings, try the same search in the “keyword” index.

The keyword index searches every word in all author, title, subject and notes fields. Notes fields can contain plot summaries, song titles, contents lists, series titles, and more. This search may retrieve many titles that you are not necessarily interested in.

This is appropriate when the last name of the author is known and a word in the title is known, but not the complete title.
Clicking on this button allows the user to search by ISBN /ISSN, Federal Government Document Number or Call Number.
If your search is successful you will see the results list screen. (If there is more than one match for your title, you will see another title list. Make another selection.) To view individual titles and call numbers, click on any of the blue links in your results list.

If your search is not successful, you will see the “No matches found; nearby authors/titles/subjects are:” message. You can use the scroll bar on the right side of the screen to scroll through nearby entries until you find what you are looking for. Or if you prefer, you may redo your search.
When using keyword you may choose to limit your search by any or all of the following:
Format (for example: book, videocassette)
Language (for example: Spanish, Polish)
Publication date (for example: after 2000)
Location (for example: Acorn, Alsip)
To limit your search, click on the down arrow button next to the limit box. Scroll through the list of options and click on the desired limiter.
