How to Search for Digital Content

Skip to: Refining Your Search | Using the SWAN Libraries App

Using the Online Catalog

Starting at our website, westmontlibrary.org:

  1. From any page on our website, find the search bar, located in the upper right corner of the page on your desktop or at the top of the page on mobile. By default, the search bar says “Search the catalog.”
  2. Click or tap the down arrow on the right side of the search bar to expand your search options.
  3. Choose “Digital Materials.”
  4. Type what you’re looking for in the box and click or tap the magnifying glass to search.

Starting at the catalog, catalog.swanlibraries.net/wms:

  1. Click or tap on the dropdown that says “All Libraries,” located on the left side under the text “Start a new search.”
  2. Choose “Downloadable eBooks and Audiobooks.” Note: Searching “eBooks and Audiobooks” automatically includes movies, music, and comics from Hoopla and Overdrive. Kanopy and Biblioboard are not included.
  3. Type what you’re looking for in the box and click or tap the magnifying glass to search.

Refining Your Search

Once you’ve done your search, you may find you have a bunch of results you don’t want. You can weed them out by using limiters.

  1. Find the box labeled “Limit Search Results” on the left side of your screen on desktop or at the bottom of the results on mobile.
  2. The first option is “Format.” If you would like to limit your search to ebooks, click on that checkbox and the catalog will refine your results to show only ebooks. Note: The catalog will only show formats that exist in the current results. If the catalog did not return any ebooks from your search, ebooks will not be listed as an option.
  3. You can also limit by app or platform. For example, if you’ve exhausted your Hoopla credits for the month and need to find something on OverDrive or cloudLibrary, you can limit your results to just those platforms under the “Vendor” options.
  4. You can also limit your results by Publication Date, Language, or Subject, as well as several other categories. The more familiar you become with the options, the easier it will become!
