Buying school supplies is one of my fondest childhood memories. Crisp clean paper, erasers with sharp edges, minty paste, folders with fun pictures,…but nothing compared to a new box of crayons. Pointy, fully wrapped, and in an amazing color order (which is so difficult to maintain once your creativity gets going!). And, if you’re lucky, you get the box with the built-in sharpener!
Since we are talking about childhood favorites, I also remember reading Harold and the Purple Crayon as a child. Harold embarked on many adventures that came to life with only his purple crayon. Harold went for a moonlit walk, met a dragon, sailed the seas, flew in a balloon, and was able to end the night by drawing up his covers. Be sure to take the time to read this wonderful story to your little ones. And if you’re feeling adventurous, give your child a purple crayon and lots of blank paper and see where their imaginations can take them.
