Rachel Maddow’s Drift. I am fan of her show on MSNBC and generally like everything about her. I have to also admit that I do not know much about military history, so when I read the bio of the book, I decided it would be a great learning experience for me. I was not sure if I would really like it (mainly because of the subject), but I surprised myself. She dived into describing America’s military power and the issues America has faced with war, economics, and in general the issue of being ‘the world’s protector.’ I listened to the audio CD and was pleasantly surprised that Rachel Maddow herself narrated it. If you want to learn more about how America came to have the largest military force in the world, this is a must read.
